Transfer Balls: Cristiano Ronaldo Finds £500,000 Reasons To Love Manchester United
TRANSFER Balls: The Mirror and Express leads with news that Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo wants to play for Manchester United.
The Mirror has Ronaldo asking Manchester United to “TAKE ME BACK”.
Only, Ronaldo has not asked United to take him back.
The entire story is summed up by the Telegraph’s headline and teaser:
Cristiano Ronaldo could return to Manchester United as he is ‘fed up’ at Real Madrid, says Ramón Calderón – Former Real Madrid president Ramón Calderón says disillusioned Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo could be tempted to move back to Old Trafford
Has Ronaldo spoken with Calderón:
Calderon, the man responsible for taking the Portugal forward to the Bernabeu, told talkSPORT: ‘My impression is he is fed up with the policy of the current president [Florentino Perez]. When he came [to Real Madrid] with [Arjen] Robben he thought he would be a good colleague for him in the team [but then he was sold]. [Gonzalo] Higuain was sold and he didn’t like that. Last year he thought it was a mistake to let [Mesut] Ozil leave and the last straw was selling Xabi Alonso and Angel di Maria this summer.’
Ok. But what about his rejoining United?
Calderon added: ‘When I signed him in 2009, I remember he said he was grateful to Manchester United. ‘He had a marvellous time there, he likes everything. It is a really great club.’
Ronaldo loves Manchester Untied so much he wis willing to accept £500,000 a week in wages to play for them. Feel the love.
The Mail reports:
Cristiano Ronaldo will demand a ground-breaking £500,000-a-week to join either Chelsea or Manchester United next summer.
Real Madrid star Ronaldo last week confirmed a story Football Grapevine broke 18 months ago that he was on the verge of re-joining United in the summer of 2013.
That deal was scuppered by the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson and the fact that United were not prepared to pay Ronaldo what he wanted and eventually got on a new deal with Real Madrid which is in the region of £350,000-a-week.
Sure. But that sounds a lot like Ronaldo using United to negotiate a better deal at Madrid.
But it’s not money that intersts Ronaldo. Oh no. It’s Angel Di Maria. As the Express reports:
ANGEL DI MARIA’S sparkling start to his Manchester United career has improved the club’s chances of luring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford.
How? Di Maria plays well so United have a more pressing need for Ronaldo?
Go figure…
